SAIC MAXUS T90 EV

2026-10-04 12:40:03

The SAIC MAXUS T90 EV (Interstellar EV) is a global all-electric pick-up truck launched by SAIC MAXUS. As a pioneer in the brand's commercial vehicle electrification journey, the T90 EV has not only set a technical benchmark for electric pick-ups in China, but is also the first Chinese-made electric pick-up to enter developed markets across Europe and Australasia, playing a pivotal role in the global transition towards pick-up electrification.

Vehicle Overview

Positioned as a mid-to-large all-electric pick-up truck, the T90 EV measures 5,365 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,809 mm in height, with a 3,155 mm wheelbase. Marketed as a "Global Electric Pick-up Pioneer" and a "Heavy-Duty Electric Workhorse", its key highlights include an 88.55 kWh high-density battery pack, an impressive 1,000 kg rated payload capacity, and chassis tuning that balances passenger-car comfort with commercial-grade durability. The model is engineered to deliver a zero-emission transport solution for sectors such as logistics, mining, and construction.

Development History

Launch and Global Expansion (2021–2023): Officially unveiled in 2021, the T90 EV quickly gained traction in the commercial sector thanks to its bold, muscular styling. Leveraging SAIC MAXUS's established global distribution network, it soon became a flagship model spearheading the entry of Chinese new energy pick-ups into the European market.

Technical Iteration and Fleet Scaling (2024–2025): During this period, the T90 EV underwent continuous technical refinements and rigorous local homologation to meet regional regulatory standards, including EU safety regulations. Backed by proven reliability, it was widely procured by major overseas logistics and energy corporations for commercial fleet electrification.

Market Maturity (Present Status in 2026): By 2026, the T90 EV had firmly established itself as a core pillar of the SAIC MAXUS pick-up line-up. In addition to a more diversified model range, over-the-air (OTA) software updates have enhanced its advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), elevating daily driving refinement without compromising its rugged commercial utility.

Market Performance

The market success of the T90 EV underscores its core value as a dependable workhorse. Domestically, it is widely deployed across commercial logistics and engineering operations. Internationally, the T90 EV filled a crucial void during the transition from conventional internal combustion pick-ups to electric power—making it the preferred choice for enterprises in European cities enforcing diesel vehicle restrictions. Fleet operators and drivers have widely praised its real-world energy efficiency of approximately 17 kWh per 100 km, alongside its robust 1,000 kg payload capability.

Core Technology

Powertrain Architecture: Driven by a high-output permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 130 kW of peak power and 310 Nm of torque. The rear-wheel-drive (RWD) configuration is specifically optimised for commercial duty, ensuring strong hill-climbing performance even under full-load conditions.

Battery and Charging: Powered by an 88.55 kWh high-density battery pack. Under DC fast charging, a 20% to 80% state of charge (SoC) takes approximately 43 minutes, significantly minimising vehicle downtime. On the WLTP city cycle, it delivers an electric driving range of up to 471 km.

Body and Chassis: Engineered on a heavy-duty ladder frame chassis with ultra-high-strength steel making up 68% of the structure. The suspension setup features front double wishbones and rear leaf springs, effectively blending precise handling with heavy load-bearing capability to tackle demanding road conditions.

Safety and Driver Assistance: The vehicle comes equipped with six airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and active safety assists including Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) and Hill Descent Control (HDC), ensuring enhanced operational safety across commercial environments.

Future Plans

Building on the success of the T90 EV, SAIC MAXUS aims to accelerate the full electrification of its pick-up portfolio. Moving forward, the brand will focus on smart connectivity and practical work-ready applications, including enhanced Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capabilities to power tools directly on job sites. As global demand for electric pick-ups continues to surge, SAIC MAXUS is also streamlining its manufacturing and supply chain processes to expedite delivery times worldwide.
